چکیده

The present article is primarily a review of the projection-operator approach to quantize systems with constraints. We study the quantization of systems with general firstand second-class constraints from the point of view of coherent-state, phase-space path integration, and show that all such cases may be treated, within the original classical phase space, by using suitable path-integral measures for the Lagrange multipliers which ensure that the quantum system satisfies the appropriate quantum constraint conditions. Unlike conventional methods, our procedures involve no δ-functionals of the classical constraints, no need for dynamical gauge fixing of first-class constraints nor any average thereover, no need to eliminate second-class constraints, no potentially ambiguous determinants, as well as no need to add auxiliary dynamical variables expanding the phase space beyond its original classical formulation, including no ghosts. Besides several pedagogical examples, we also study: (i) the quantization procedure for reparameterization invariant models, (ii) systems for which the original set of Lagrange mutipliers are elevated to the status of dynamical variables and used to define an extended dynamical system which is completed with the addition of suitable conjugates and new sets of constraints and their associated Lagrange multipliers, (iii) special examples of alternative but equivalent formulations of given first-class constraints, as well as (iv) a comparison of both regular and irregular constraints. ∗To appear in the proceedings of the 39th Schladming Winter School on “Methods of Quantization”, February 26-March 4, 2000, Schladming, Austria.

Error Bounds for High-resolution Quantization with Rényi-α-entropy Constraints

We consider the problem of optimal quantization with norm exponent r > 0 for Borel probability measures on R under constrained Rényi-αentropy of the quantizers. If the bound on the entropy becomes large, then sharp asymptotics for the optimal quantization error are well-known in the special cases α = 0 (memory-constrained quantization) and α = 1 (Shannon-entropy-constrained quantization). In th...

Refined Algebraic Quantization and Group Averaging are powerful methods for quantizing constrained systems. They give constructive algorithms for generating observables and the physical inner product. This work outlines the current status of these ideas with an eye toward quantum gravity. The main goal is provide a description of outstanding problems and possible research topics in the field.

Rule Weight Optimization and Feature Selection in Fuzzy Systems with Sparsity Contraints

In this paper, we are dealing with a novel data-driven learning method (SparseFIS) for Takagi-Sugeno fuzzy systems, extended by including rule weights. Our learning method consists of three phases: the first phase conducts a clustering process in the input/output feature space with iterative vector quantization. Hereby, the number of clusters = rules is pre-defined and denotes a kind of upper b...

Singular constrained linear systems

In the linear system Ax = b the points x are sometimes constrained to lie in a given subspace S of column space of A. Drazin inverse for any singular or nonsingular matrix, exist and is unique. In this paper, the singular consistent or inconsistent constrained linear systems are introduced and the effect of Drazin inverse in solving such systems is investigated. Constrained linear system arise ...

Semi - classical States in the Context of Constrained Systems

Algebraic quantization scheme has been proposed as an extension of the Dirac quantization scheme for constrained systems. Semi-classical states for constrained systems is also an independent and important issue, particularly in the context of quantum geometry. In this work we explore this issue within the framework of algebraic quantization scheme by means of simple explicit examples. We obtain...

Ja n 19 96 Non - canonical Quantization of a Quadratic Constrained System ∗

We propose an alternative to Dirac quantization for a quadratic constrained system. We show that this solves the Jacobi identity violation problem occuring in the Dirac quantization case and yields a well defined Fock space. By requiring the uniqueness of the ground state, we show that for non-constrained systems, this approach gives the same results as Dirac quantization. After the formulation...
